Eunice Adabunu was amongst the first generation of Nana Benz. At the age of 47, and with 23 years of experience in the textile business, her wealth made her a key figure and sponsor of Olympio’s party (Comité de l’ Unité Togolaise (CUT) in the fight for independence. In 1963, she featured in Ebony Magazine, where we learn that she began merchandising at the age of 11, selling beignets, sugar, and pearls. In addition to providing financial support to political candidates, she also served as a member of the City Council and the president of Lomé’s unit of the Togolese Women’s Union (UFEMTO).
